Tax Credits

If you would like to contribute to our districtโ€™s schools in a way that costs you nothing, the Arizona Tax Credit is an easy way to help.

How Can I Contribute?

The Arizona tax law (ARS 43-1089.01) allows all taxpayers a tax credit of up to $400 if they contribute to an extracurricular activity in an Arizona public school. This tax credit is available to all taxpayers; you arenโ€™t required to have a child in school.

This tax credit is different from a tax deduction. A deduction allows you to subtract the amount of the deduction from your taxable income. A tax credit is a dollar for dollar reduction in the amount of tax you owe.

For more information, see below and visit the Arizona Department of Revenueโ€™s page about the School Tax Credit.

Examples of Extracurricular Activities

The following activities are eligible for Arizona Tax Credit:

  • Athletics

  • Clubs

  • Fine Arts

  • Lab Equipment

  • Music Programs

  • Uniforms

How Does the Tax Credit Work?

You may contribute to a qualifying extracurricular activity in any Arizona public school, up to the following amounts:

  • Single or head of household - $200

  • Married filing jointly - $400

The amount you contribute does not have to be the full amount of $200 or $400. Even a small donation will make a difference to our schools.

To support the schools in Bowie Unified School District, simply write a check to the school of your choice and be sure to get a receipt verifying your donation to an extracurricular activity. When you file your tax return, you can claim this as a tax credit.
