A Message From Our Principal

June 15, 2017

Dear Bowie Families,

I am looking forward to the upcoming 2017–2018 school year and welcoming back Bowie students. The first day of school is August 14, 2017, and school starts at 7:45 a.m. We would like all students, (preK–12), to please meet the teachers on the Bowie Elementary playground. This year, I am really excited about focusing on student learning through some of the new opportunities with the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program. This program will support hands-on learning combining the subject areas of STEM.

In addition, another tool for the learning environment includes incorporating the use of Arizona’s State Standards with an online platform for staff. This enables teachers to have a year-long view of the curriculum and to plan learning experiences together. They will have the opportunity to work with the program designers, who are teachers from the Crane School District, located in Yuma, Arizona. Teachers will have many opportunities to be learning alongside their students; thus, we are modeling life-long learners in the Bowie Community.

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce Bowie School District’s new teachers: Patsy Nyberg and Kathy Murphy. Ms. Nyberg will be teaching students in grades 3-5. Ms. Murphy will be teaching students in grades 6-8. I am looking forward to expanding the Bowie staff in the future!

Bowie Unified School District is working with the Project Elevate program to gain additional knowledge to increase student achievement. As part of this school improvement work, Bowie Schools will continue to offer professional development to all staff. In addition, Bowie Schools will be encouraging your involvement and feedback on the school’s progress.

I look forward to having my first “Meet and Greet” on Monday, August 21, 2017, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., in the library of Bowie Elementary. This will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have about the school year and to meet other families.

Enjoy the summer! Be safe and keep reading! Get plenty of rest and be ready to start the next school year! School starts on August 14, 2017, at 7:45 a.m.

Congratulations to Ryan Klump, first place FFA State Farmer finalist winner for beef production, and to Houston Klump for Star State Greenhand finalist. We are so proud of these Bowie Elementary students!

Welcome to Patsy Nyberg!

A big welcome to new elementary school teacher, Ms. Patsy Nyberg.

Ms. Nyberg has been an educator for over 30 years, teaching students from preschool through high school. She is highly qualified to teach grades K-8 and Family and Consumer Science. Ms. Nyberg loves Cochise County for it`s beauty and rich history. Her husband, Karl, and son KJ, moved to Cochise County nine years ago and live near Cochise Stronghold along with their 4 dogs: Lucy, Taza, TJAZ and Scout. Her hobbies include gardening, animal care and art, in all forms. She is excited to be teaching at Bowie Elementary.

Hands-On Learning

Mr. St. Clair recently worked with Ryan Klump on repairing the dugout roof. This is a great example of hands-on learning!

FFA Banquet

Students had a wonderful time at the FFA banquet in May. Just take a look at their smiling faces!

Preschool Graduates

Congratulations to our preschool graduates. You have grown and learned so much this year! Thank you, Ms. Madrid, for teaching Bowie youngsters!

Guitar Lessons

Have you always wanted to learn how to play the guitar? Here is your opportunity! Every Friday starting April 21 at 3:00 p.m., you can come to the Bowie Library to learn how to play the guitar. You can bring your own or use one of ours.

Welcome, Kathy Murphy!

Welcome new teacher, Kathy Murphy. Ms. Murphy is joining the Bowie Schools team and will be starting in July. Her expertise is science. Her background includes teaching overseas and teaching elementary, middle, and high school students. Ms. Murphy received the science teacher of the year award. We are honored and excited to have her share her expertise with Bowie students and staff.

Message from the Administrative Team

Greetings to all stakeholders of the Bowie School community. We are looking forward to another wonderful year creating a love for learning and a safe and caring learning environment. We invite you to become an active participant in the Bowie School community through volunteering, attending, and supporting school events. Research clearly supports that when parents/guardians participate, and are involved in their child’s education, there is a greater likelihood of academic success for the child.

Feel free to contact us for any concerns or questions.
